  • Early in the morning we drive north of Quito through the province of Imbabura, admiring the incredible change of ecosystems and geology on the way.
  • Stop at the San Pablo Lake where you can try traditional savoury biscuits and the popular cheese, both products from the region.
  • Visit the market of Otavalo, the largest indigenous market in South America. Wind your way through the stalls spilling out from the main plaza, and haggling with the vendors who will sell you everything from alpaca jumpers and jewellery to wooden instruments, hammocks and paintings.
  • We then go to the Cotacachi Cayapas Reserve where we will get an amazing view of Cuicocha Lake.
  • Have lunch in the town of Cotacachi, famous for the leather market, then have some free time to shop.
  • Return to Quito.
